# Notification settings

You can control which email notifications you receive from RapidCert.

## Notification types

| Type                     | Description                                                                        |
| ------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Transactional emails** | Updates about insurance approvals, evaluation results, and other account activity |
| **Expiry notifications** | Reminders when certifications or insurance policies are approaching or past expiry |

By default, all notifications are **enabled**.

## Notification levels

Settings can be configured at several levels, from broad to specific:

| Level             | What it controls                                                                |
| ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Company** | All notifications for a company — both transactional and expiry |
| **User** | Your personal notification preferences within a company |
| **Certification** | Expiry reminders for a specific certification and its linked insurance policies |

More specific settings override broader ones. For example, you can keep company-level expiry notifications enabled but disable reminders for a specific certification you are intentionally letting expire.

<Info>
  Insurance policy expiry reminders are controlled by the certification they are linked to. There is no separate toggle for individual insurance policies.
</Info>

## Managing settings

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open notification settings">
    Navigate to **Settings** in the sidebar and select the **Notifications** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Configure company and user preferences">
    Your settings are grouped by company. Toggle **Transactional emails** and **Expiry notifications** at the company or user level.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Configure certification preferences">
    Expand a certification to toggle its expiry notifications. Linked insurance policies are shown for reference — they follow the certification's setting.

    If your company has more than one accreditation of the same type (see [Labelled accreditation slots](/guides/contractors/certifications#labelled-accreditation-slots)), each slot appears here as a separate row with its label attached (for example `SHEPrequal Assessment - Auckland Hotel`) so you can toggle reminders for each slot independently.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Save Changes**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  If you belong to multiple companies, each company has independent notification settings.
</Note>
